Professional Background
Why I do what I do
At Divergent Minds Counseling, I provide individual, couples, group, and family therapy for children, adolescents, and adults seeking specialized support with neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism). I also provide services for LGBTQIA+ concerns/exploration, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity development, and trauma. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and strengths-based, recognizing that every person experiences the world differently and deserves care that honors their unique experiences, values, and goals.
Despite the growing awareness of neurodiversity, many neurodivergent individuals still continue to encounter services that have a lack of specialized training, highlighting the increasing need for affirming, neurodiversity-informed, specialized mental health care. I have specialized ADHD and Autism training, and am specifically certified in such. I continue to hold these certifications through continuing education and clinical hours. If you have any questions about this training, please do not hesitate to reach out!
My counseling and education style is authentic, often utilizing humor. Importantly, I will never
turn down seeing your pets during a session! I believe in self-empowerment and promote
such in the utilization of psychoeducation. I have extensive experience with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent populations in numerous settings, including couples, groups, and individuals.
I also have extensive experience working with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
A little more about me…
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, psychology professor, and doctoral candidate in Educational Psychology and Research. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges while building on their strengths and embracing their authentic selves.
I have specialized training and experience working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, relationship concerns, academic stress, and life transitions. My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful growth happens when people feel safe enough to be themselves and empowered enough to pursue change.
My approach to counseling is compassionate, collaborative, and affirming. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel genuinely understood—not judged, rushed, or expected to fit someone else's idea of who you "should" be. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based practices. My work is also influenced by Humanistic and Feminist perspectives, recognizing that every person is unique and deserving of individualized care.
As part of my commitment to providing high-quality care, I regularly engage in clinical supervision with an experienced supervisor. Clinical supervision provides an additional layer of professional collaboration and support, helping ensure that I offer thoughtful, ethical, and effective services. All supervision is conducted in accordance with professional and ethical standards, and your confidentiality remains protected. I am currently receiving clinical supervision from [Supervisor Name], [Credentials], in accordance with state licensing requirements.
When I'm not counseling, teaching psychology, or working on my dissertation, you'll likely find me spending time with my pets (Archie, Walter, and Theo), enjoying the outdoors, or convincing myself that buying another plant is a perfectly reasonable decision.
I believe therapy doesn't have to be serious every second of the hour. While we may explore difficult topics, I value authenticity, warmth, and humor. Sometimes healing involves deep reflection; sometimes it involves realizing you've been arguing with your anxiety like it's an unpaid intern running your life.
Whether you're seeking support, growth, healing, or simply a place where you can show up as yourself, I'm honored to be part of your journey.
Every mind shines differently, and every story deserves to be heard.
